Description
Based on the true-life adventures of his paternal grandmother, “One-eyed Maggie,” Chain of Fools is a tumultuous romp across crashing stock markets, fatal car wrecks, dysfunctional families, casinos and speakeasies. Set in northern Minnesota with a sordid cast of Chippewa Native Americans, exotic dancers and certified alcoholics this semi-autobiographical novel exposes the underbelly of the American upper Midwest. It is a fictional memoir of the path not taken. At times hilarious, at times utterly tragic, this is a story about two black sheep discovering each other in a troubled world.
In a review by Philip Jason, with the Naples Daily News, in 2009 he writes: “In a world of drunks, derelicts, child-abusers, prostitutes and ne’er do wells, Sobczak finds and celebrates the redeeming touches while mourning the waste.”
This book is a black comedy that stretches to the very edge of the genre. No one wins and there are no heros to be found in this tale of generational abyss but life moves on and in an amazing ending, love conquers all. This title is not currently available as an ebook.
